I have installed the newest build of Windows Vista.
When I want to shutdown with on the new way. SO power off, but when i enable the system again, it will be starting lighting fast (something like the old XP hibernate function, but then, the data will be present in the RAM).
But, when i do this, the systems shut down, and wake up immediatelly, and restores the windows session..
I have an AMD64 3000+ on a Asus K8N-E Deluxe mainboard with nForce3 chipset.
Do i have to make a change in the Bios for properly working of this feature, or isn't possible with my motherboard?
Thanks in advance for all answers! :D

As i say, this is how its ment to work, it is beta so it may not work right with your hardware, it DOES work like this on my laptop and its very usefull as my laptop uses lots of juice even in standby mode.

Have you checked your eventlog?

As far as i know it is ment to work as follows :
You shutdown, it saves memory to disk and then go into sleep mode You power on, it comes out of sleep mode and doesent use the memory thats been saved to disk. BUT... if you unplug it and power on, it will still come up but it will be like comming out of hibernate mode.

Actually, I really don't think anyone has a safe way of shutting down Windows yet!! Nothing seems to work except from the command prompt!

It could involve ACPI settings in the BIOS, looks for modes like S1, S2, S3. I don't know know which is best for Vista to do its thing, but in earlier versions of Windows you had to pick the right one before installing the OS. Switching it after, much like The Goggles, does nothing (or at least nothing good).

When turned on S1, it works, but it only shutsdown the HDD, and not the CPU and GPU and so on.. :(
so its not really a solution.. But it works! :D
